Day 157: Gotta Run

I was feeling so sore today. I had on my exercise clothes and my muscles were telling me to rest. I laced up my shoes and went out for a run! I ran 1.5 miles. May not seem like a lot to runners but to me it is. I am going to work up to 3 miles slowly. I have an ankle with plates and screws and usually when I have tried to run in the past I do too much. Going slow and steady. Just thought it would be good to add into the workout regime a couple times a week to keep mixing it up! I got to drop that entire 30 lbs!

Day 156:

Yesterday flew by! I had my trusty to do list to check and keep me on track. I did not get everything complete but I got a lot complete!  It was my 8th year wedding anniversary so after my husband came home I wrapped up my to do's and just spent time with him!

Time to get to it for today. One thing I will be working on will be organizing my to do list by priority.
Things in BOLD will be a hot priority! Others to do's I might add a notation about time of day to complete.
I have a few weeks before school lets out and I need to be well organized before the children are home all day, every day! Work things need to get done but they are my priority and I want to maximize my time so my children have my full attention!

Day 143: The Written Word Comes to Life

I am thrilled to be meeting my second social media client tomorrow! Rock on!
I have a 3rd scheduled for April 27th! The to do list has made it all possible!

There is something about writing a goal down and an ACTION (in babysteps) down that makes it come to life. Back a few months ago I wrote about resigning from a contract event I worked on each year. I trusted my gut, put actions on my to do list and now...not only am I only FREE of a job that really stressed me out I have more than replaced that income! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Day 141: List...list...list..

I looked around today on the web and found a lot of great packing list.  Some were created for people traveling overseas for lengths of time, some seemed more suited for local travel. As I reveiwed all the list - I decided to use them as my launching point but really narrow down to meet my needs for traveling out of state to see family.

Day 140: Traveling

In a couple weeks I will be heading out of town. I am going to work on a traveling "to do list" and post for anyone that would like to download a copy and edit to fit their needs. Usually I leave the house and have overpacked and/or left the house in a bit of chaos.  I think I need to look at my traveling to do list in as two main categories:
-What needs to be done before I leave
-What do I need to pack for the trip

I will post my brainstorm before fine tuning it into a well organized thought out to do list.

Day 137: Email, email, and more email

I read that billions of dollars are lost by companies each year because of employees mismanagement of email. I can believe it.  The article had it right - companies deploy communication software with little or no education.

The article by the McGhee company goes on to identify compulsively checking of email, loose construction of email email, and holding thousands of emails in the inbox as major issues.

Working from home I am hugely dependent on email. In what I do for a living it is a key component to get my job accomplished. Several months back I had thousands of emails in my inbox I used for reference. I just created a folder called "archive" and dropped them in there for fear I would need something.

Now I have 520 emails in my inbox. I have to rid myself of this email clutter.

My next step is to clear out the inbox by following what the McGhee group refers to as the 4 D's:

  1. Delete
  2. Defer - (put on my to do list)
  3. Delegate
  4. Do It (if it takes 2 minutes or less - just do it!)
Over the next 5 days I am going to work on clearning out that inbox using the 4 D approach.
If the email is being saved for reference reasons I will file appropriately in subfolders.

By this evening -- I need to be down to 420 emails!

Day 136: Productivity

I have been extremely more productive since beginning my to do list quest but in no way have perfected my skill. Last night I listened to a 45 minutes seminar given by John Wittry of Mcgee Productivity Solutions.
One solid take away for me - I have to learn to manage my email. He asked how many emails those in the audience currently have in their inbox. Numbers ranged from a couple hundred to thousands. I am in the hundreds.

What I learned is that I am using my inbox as a reference system.

I am going to work on a consistent methodology to manage my email and get it out of the inbox. Keep it clear and manage my time.

The company has a newsletters available for download on their WEBSITE. Worth a look if you are interested in productivity.

Day 134: One step closer

Yay! I have a great solid lead on a new client for my marketing work! Everytime I get a new client I am a step closer to achieving my financial goals. I am negotiating pricing now - but am confident things will work out. Someone I currently work for is helping me to expand even further.

One thing I can say for sure! The only reason I am at this point is because of a few small babysteps I had on my prior to do lists!

Tip 1: Don't doubt yourself.
Tip 2: Take babysteps to reach your goal.
Tip 3: Put it on your to do list.
Tip 4: Network with anyone and everyone you know.
Tip 5: Don't give up.

Make that to do list and get to it!

Day 133: Busy, busy, busy

I had a kink thrown in the day - my son came home from school with a high fever. I had to take him to the doctors. Strep! Yuck! I got a ton accomplished other than my workout. Bad on me! I know this to be so true...always do the workout first thing in the morning!! It ensures it gets done!

BTW - All the pants I somehow squeezed into fit properly. Now they are TOO BIG!!

Day 131/132 - The Weekend

I decided this past New Year to have friends, neighbors and family over more. (because my house would not be in CHAOS!) I have been true to that promise. My home is by no way perfect. There are still little things that need to be picked up or finished. Sure there are some closets I might not want opened. All in all I am doing pretty good with keeping my home in a good way.

We have been having lots of fun having fun with this. The children love it and it is great to invite people in our home and have fun. When all is said and done - the fun with have with people we love is what we remember.

The smores were sooooo good last night!!
